TV Redux

The fall season is in full swing, and here's what I think of it: ER - Not sure if I still care. But perhaps I do. Eh.

Six Degrees - On opposite ER, this show is interesting just because it changes plot lines a lot. Plus, it has Michael K. Williams from The Wire - love him! But, his part is really one dimensional on Six Degrees, a mere shadow of his Omar character on The Wire. The discrepancy really stands out because they're similar characters - morally ambiguous drug dealers. I bet it's not long until Six Degrees is Six Feet Under.

Men in Trees - I really like this show! Hey, I'm as surprised as you are! I don't care that it's similar to Northern Exposure - that show was on over a decade ago, and it was darn good. So, Men in Trees is way more original than all the crime and medical dramas on the air right now. I think the cast is great, the supporting characters are given a lot of meat to work with, and the overall premise is believable. And, since it's cold in Alaska, the actors sport lots of knits. There was a great faux-argyle earflap hat in episode 5 (note to self- shamelessly copy!), and the men wear lots of great cabled sweaters. Sadly, I think the network is doing a poor job with promotion and timeslot - add that to the poor reviews, and I bet it's not long for this world.

Grey's Anatomy - Liking it a lot, just like last year.

The Office - Question: Why didn't I watch this last year? In any case, I watched some reruns over the summer and am now totally addicted. I watched the British version, and liked it, and was sorely disappointed by the American pilot. I figured, "Great, another Coupling fiasco" and never tuned in again. But I'm on board now, and I have to say that Michael's "Queer as F***" line in the pilot made me laugh harder than anything I've seen on TV in months.

Smith - Hmm, like Heist, but less funny. Another early candidate for the chopping block, I think. Which is too bad, because it's pretty good. I'm also glad to see Original Cindy from Dark Angel on TV again.

The Amazing Race - w00t! The Race took off from Seattle this season, from Gasworks Park. The pilot featured the racers having trouble finding the I-5 freeway to the airport. Let me tell you, navigating from Gasworks to the freeway is tricky, and I've lived in Seattle for eight years. And of course there was horrid traffic, which is par for the course.

Brothers and Sisters - What ever happened to Sons and Daughters? This may be the same show, I'm unsure. Wait! S&D was a comedy, and B&S is a drama. I think. In any case, there are a lot of characters on this show, and while Sally Field is the worst thing about ER, she's pretty good here. But I don't really care about this show and its dysfunctional family of produce vendors. You read that right. Produce.

Survivor - Same old, same old. This week one guy was suckered by an octopus! Now that's embracing diversity.

Gilmore Girls - One of my perennial favorites, it's sad to see the life slowly draining away from GG. Rory is annoying. But I want her outfits. Lorelai is stupid. But I want her outfits. Sookie is clueless. But I want her kitchen. And Luke still hasn't shaved. After all these years, the man has a constant 2-day growth going on. Whatev.

CSI - Oh, puhleeze! Hello, chain of evidence? The pilot was so ridiculous. Remember those episodes of 90201 where a band would come play at the Peach Pit After Dark? Subsitite Nick Stokes for Steve Sanders, Marg Helgenberger for Tori Spelling, and John Mayer for Jeremy Jordan, and we've got the same damn show! I suppose in this analogy Gil Grissom would be Nate. Who cares, they both make a tasty grilled cheese. (Side note, while researching this post, I discovered that there is a whole 'nother Jeremy Jordan who is an adult film star! Don't worry, wikipedia says there's no relation. The 90210 Jeremy Jordan was in the movie "Never Been Kissed", which is probably the EXACT OPPOSITE of the movies the other Jeremy Jordan is famous for.) P.S., my Christmas list starts here. Bones - Another show I picked up over the summer. Love it! Love it all!

House - Yep, another new-to-me. And again, I love it. Screw ER.

Jeopardy - Are the questions getting harder, or am I getting stupider? Maybe I should stop watching so much TV.

Naaaaaah.
