Maui Revealed
Drumroll, please. The correct answer to the vacation contest was Maui, Hawaii. We had a fabulous trip, that was simultaneously relaxing and exhausting. You can view some photos from my vacation by clicking here.
And here's an explanation of the clues:
Clue 1: Waterproof camera. This came in handy on our snorkeling trip off the coast of Lana'i.
Clue 2: Warm hat. A popular Maui activity is getting up hours before dawn and driving to the summit of Haleakala to see the sunrise. Temperatures at the summit routinely drop to 40 degrees and below.
Clue 3: Flashlight. It's dark up there at the summit before dawn! And there are sometimes puddles.
Clue 4: After Bite. On our last trip to Maui, I got several nasty mosquito bites, even with liberal applications of Deep Woods Off. This year, I came prepared.
Clue 5: Excerpt from our favorite travel guide, Maui Revealed. This passage refers to the freezing pre-dawn temperatures at the Haleakala summit.
Clue 6: Yes, you can fly nonstop from Seattle to Maui. This is one of the reasons we decided not to go to Kauai or the Big Island.
Pictures:
1: Interesting rock stacks at the Nakalele Blowhole in west Maui.
2: View from the Waihe'e Ridge trail.
3: That famous Haleakala sunrise.
4: The windward side of Haleakala, with 17 waterfalls.
5: The Wailea beach path in south Maui.
6: Silversword plant, endemic to Haleakala.
7: Me, on the Skyline Ecoadventures zipline. Wheeeee!!!
The contest winner will be announced shortly. Thanks to everyone who played along!
