Mis-shapes, mistakes, misfits
Friday, November 24th, 2006Yet another new project, and nary an FO in sight. Ah well. I was seduced by this Rowan tapestry yarn on a recent trip to Churchmouse Yarn and Tea. Actually, I was seduced by their sample mistake rib muffler. After a few minutes of heavy petting, I snagged a [...]
Zero to Hero
Wednesday, November 22nd, 2006Back when I was a novice knitter, I picked up 2 balls of Patons Kroy in a lovely grape shade (they call it Purple Heather Mix, but whatever). Just recently I picked it up and began knitting the Hello Yarn Cable Twist Socks pattern, heavily inspired by Grumperina’s beautiful green pair. But damn, [...]
Claudia-potis
Monday, November 20th, 2006I just realized I never posted a glamour shot of my completed rescued Clapotis. Here she is, in all her glory. Man this Claudia yarn is sweet.
Do you ever get the feeling…
Saturday, November 18th, 2006Like you’ve forgotten something?
Me neither.
Shirley Temple never had it so good
Thursday, November 16th, 2006Ever since I read about “real” grenadine on the Slashfood, I’ve been itching to try it. Lo and behold, I found a bottle in the endcap at my local grocery store.
Even though I am morally opposed to impulse buying, I snagged a bottle. At $6 for 12 ounces, it costs about twice as [...]
Didja ever see Captain Hook with a runny nose?
Thursday, November 16th, 2006This has got to be the dorkiest thing I’ve seen in a while: the Handler, a hand held, push-button retractible hook that lets you avoid touching things that are often coated in fecal coliform bacteria. Like door handles, ATM machines, and that guy on the bus. I watched the “how it works” [...]
Silly things
Wednesday, November 15th, 2006Maybe the Sili Sling looks like a cross between a turkey bra and a chicken slingshot, but I want one. I’ve coaxed several slippery, scalding turkeys from roasting pan to cutting board in my time, and it’s always a nerve-wracking process. Maybe blowing $20 on a Sili Sling would make life easier. [...]
Posh yarn sighting
Monday, November 13th, 2006As seen in the Tiffany’s window at Pacific Place.
Backwards, and in high heels.
Monday, November 13th, 2006I’m currently searching for the perfect cocktail to start off Thanksgiving chez moi. A few years ago it was POM-spiked champagne, then my signature Northwest Cosmopolitan. This year, I might try the Ginger Rogers, via Daily Candy. This drink has three of my favorite ingredients - mint, ginger, and gin, and it [...]
Baby duds
Saturday, November 11th, 2006Here’s some pics of baby gear I made for a friend of mine who is about to have a sweet baby boy. This sweater is the garter stitch kimono from Summer 2005 Interweave Knits. The red hat is from One Skein, and the other hats are of my own design (cough cough). [...]
How to Save a Clapotis
Thursday, November 9th, 2006As promised, here is my tutorial on saving a Clapotis gone awry. This approach will work if you’ve run out of yarn, and want to backtrack to make a shorter clapotis. This will not work if you’ve dropped a stitch in the wrong place, or have accidentally turned your Clapotis into a bolero [...]
Clapo-gahhh
Wednesday, November 8th, 2006OK, help. I’ve run out of yarn for my Clapotis. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before - yes, this is the second time I’ve run out of yarn on a Clapotis. I’m not sure what’s wrong with me. Anyway. Can I just frog back like any other piece [...]
Squirrels and Dahlias
Tuesday, November 7th, 2006Two things I love about fall. Of course, these pictures were taken before last week’s rains, so this squirrel now probably looks like a sodden wharf rat and the dahlias are likely reduced to naked twigs and a pile of muddy petals. It was nice while it lasted, all 17.4 hours of it.
Yes, Virginia, that is a machine gun.
Sunday, November 5th, 2006I took a nice ferryboat ride over to Bainbridge Island a few weeks ago. It was a dazzling fall day, the kind that makes you thank Jeebus that you live in Seattle. See?
On the way back, we had the pleasure of a coast guard (or harbor patrol?) escort. The nice lady on [...]
Mocha Latte, anyone?
Friday, November 3rd, 2006OK, we’ve all agreed that this drink doesn’t exist. Mochas exist. Lattes exist. Mocha lattes do NOT exist, except on Grey’s Anatomy. However.
How can a drink that doesn’t exist have a contest associated with it?
And recipes?
And nutrition information?
This place in Texas seems to serve it, although I will forgive them because [...]
For people who bend both ways.
Friday, November 3rd, 2006Too many choices!
Wednesday, November 1st, 2006I came up with a few more palettes for my theoretical fair isle sweater. Again, the center shade would be MC:
Orange vs. blue
Pink vs. green - I’m not sure if the orange MC would be too much!
Orange vs. green
Reds vs. green
The last one is most similar to the color palette called for, but Elann [...]
