I think I’ll need another skein of Cascade 220 if I want this to work as a scarf. Who knew it took so much yarn to make Princess Jessamine? I should have had plenty left over. Ah well.
I couldn’t hold out anymore. I’m making … it. I know what you’re thinking, I thought she had this big exam to study for. But I can’t study all the time. Sheesh.
What’s better than the first mojitos of the season?
The first mojitos of the season and a 1st bloggiversary goodie package from Amy!
Yes, I accidentally opened it upside down. Amy put together the most fabulous treats to celebrate the first anniversary of her blog Good to be Girl, and I was lucky enough to get [...]
This used to be a good neighborhood. A nice place to raise a little plant, a place to really put down roots. Until one day a few months ago, this shady character showed up, pushing smack. “MG”, they called it, or “Special Gro”. All I knew is that once my sweet, [...]
Mmmm…. asparagus…. it really is the fist of the season.
Okay, now this is just about the cutest pattern ever to be rejected from Knitty. Now I need to find a pattern for wee knitted cigarettes.
Sadly, until June 17 has come and gone, I won’t have much time to take care of my readers in the fashion to which they have become accustomed. No more poignant tales of girl scout misadventures, no more exciting tales of poor yarn choices and gauge massacres. I have a big ol’ exam [...]
Wow, was I having trouble with the Branching Out scarf in Douceur et Soie. I decided to start over, using Cascade 220, in Princess Jessamine Green. Okay, this is more like it. I whizzed through three repeats in the time it took me to wrestle one (incorrect) repeat out of the D [...]
Check out the cool cuff I made for my hourglass sweater sleeve:
I used the fold-over technique from the MagKnits Nothin’ but a T-Shirt pattern, which was recommended by Deena on the knitalong page, but I don’t think she has a website… Anyway, it looks super cool and finished. Too bad it’s twice as [...]
Okay, I’ve made decent progress on the second Broadripple sock! See, they look like twins:
Fraternal twins, that is. And the second-born twin was deprived of oxygen in the existential sock uterus and developed some horrific congenital defect that not even a mother could love. Okay, that’s dramatic, but what is UP with [...]
I’ve been joining knitalongs as quickly as I can start and abandon projects! And that’s fast. My most recent foray is the Knitty Branching Out knitalong. I was planning on doing this pattern anyway, because I had the called-for yarn in my stash. (How often does that happen?) So here’s [...]
This weekend we went to see the Seattle Opera’s prodction of Tales of Hoffman, the final opera of the season. I hadn’t read anything about the opera or the production before going in, so I was pleasantly surprised! I’m kind of picky about my operas, but any production that includes magical dancing wine [...]
Ever since I was a wee ankle biter (translation: little girl) I have been a citrus junkie. Lemons, limes, kumquats, oranges, tangerines, minneolas, clementines, whatever. But my favorite is the grapefruit. I remember devouring a grapefruit half one morning as a relative looked on in horror, because I didn’t put any sugar [...]
I used size 11 needles, and every last centimeter of one skein of Manos del Uruguay. The final measurements are 4″ x 46″. I had read that some people have had problems with the ends of the scarf flaring, because the cast-on and cast-off rows are not as compact as the stitch pattern. [...]
…what you can do months from now. I had this one Broadripple sock knocking around for ages, and I finally gritted my teeth and have started on its mate. Gargh. I already did this, why must I do it again? Well, I can console myself with the fact that it’s a [...]
My replacement #8 Denise needle tips finally arrived, so I can get a move on finishing my Hourglass Sweater. Yahoo!
Yesterday I discovered a new yarn shop, the Wooly Monkey in Greenwood! I didn’t go inside, because we were just driving by on the way to dinner, but its red neon “YARN” sign beckoned [...]
Even though I haven’t finished it yet, my previous post on the So-Called Scarf has generated lots of interest from other knitters. There’s just something really fabulous about that stitch pattern. I’m hoping that using one skein of Manos won’t make the scarf too stubby - I’ll post the measurements when I’m done [...]
I’m not a nature girl by any means, but I do enjoy watching springtime flowers erupting all over the UW campus. I particularly like these trees I’ve dubbed “snowball trees,” because, well, you can see why!
I should be making more progress on my Hourglass Sweater soon - I sent away for replacement #8 needle [...]
So yesterday blog-less Katy and I attacked the Weaving Works 20% off everything sale with determination and vigor. The sale was good, and thank God we didn’t go on Saturday like last year. On Thursday afternoon, we were actually able to move up and down the aisles. All the yarns were 20% [...]
